Offshore Breakwaters Where a coastline might be under threat from the sea but not requiring full scale repair, prevention of further damage via the use of offshore breakwaters may be a cost effective, ecologically sound decision. The requirement to improve flood defences are high on the global agenda.  Scientists warn that the effects of global warming will be rising sea levels and the likelihood of more flooding. The East Riding of Yorkshire coastline is one of the fastest declining coastlines in Europe with a worrying threat of an increase in inland flooding.  This isn’t, of course, the only coastline or region susceptible to flooding.
